Frank Saunders

Assistant Professor at Yonsei University

Biography

-

I am an assistant professor of philosophy at Underwood International College. I received both my MPhil (2015) and PhD (2019) in philosophy from the University of Hong Kong. In the past, I have taught philosophy courses at The University of Hong Kong (HKSAR), Lingnan University (HKSAR), and BNU-HKBU United International College (Zhuhai, PRC).

My main research area is ancient Chinese philosophy. I am particularly interested in early Daoist and Mohist texts from the Warring States period. Many of my research questions focus on issues of interpretation and understanding these texts and their relationships with other Chinese classics, philosophy, and history. More recently, I have been very interested in utilizing insights from the ancient Chinese tradition to help us to discuss modern philosophical problems, such as the nature of the concept of truth, the normativity of nature, and pluralism in ethics.
