Biography

INSEAD Business School

François Dupuy is an independent sociologist who operates frequently in academic and consulting positions.

His work focuses on strategic analysis of organizations as a tool for diagnostics of organizational issues and change management. Among various books and articles, he is the author of the Manpower award winning "The customer's victory" (1999), "The chemistry of change” (2001), The Sciences-Pô/Le Monde award winning "Sharing knowledge" (2005), "La fatigue des élites" (2005). His latest books in English are: "Lost in management: la vie quotidienne des entreprises au XXIème siècle", Paris, éditions du Seuil, 2011 and "Business for the 21st century: towards simplicity and trust", London, Macmillan Business, 2011.

As a consultant, François created his first consulting company, Stratema/SMG (1984-1995). A few years later, he was also the founder and Chairman of the French subsidiary of Mercer Delta (2001-2005).

François works with multinational corporations to diagnose organizational barriers to successful change and business growth. The diagnostic process highlights the organizational context (place) and practice (behaviour) that prevent successful adoption and implementation of business objectives. He has worked with top management teams in companies such as Air France, Air Liquide, France Telecom, GDF Suez, Lafarge, La Poste, l'Oreal, Merck Serrono, Renault, Schneider Electric, Snecma, and UKTI.

As an academic, François was Professor of Management at the Kelley School of Business Indiana University (1995-2001), and Affiliate Professor of Psycho-sociology of Organizations at INSEAD, Fontainebleau France.

François’s major academic involvement has been in field of executive education. Starting in 1984 at CEDEP, on the INSEAD campus, François has been developing customized programs for France Telecom, Fortis bank, L’Oreal, Valeo as well as the Global Partnership for Executive Development (GPED), a program jointly delivered by CEDEP and Indiana University. He has also worked with major company universities such as the former Thomson University, and more recently Crédit Agricole IFCAM, Schneider University, and GDF Suez University. As a Partner in MESA Research Group, François works with companies such as ExxonMobil (US), GDF-Suez (France), Ingersoll Rand (US), Indus Towers (India), Kohler (US), Mahindra & Mahindra (India), Polaris (India), and Schneider Electric (France).

Before starting his career as a consultant, François spent 15 years as fellow researcher at the French Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) (1974-1990).

François received a BA in History from La Sorbonne in 1969, a MA in Political Science at Sciences Po Paris (1971). He also graduated from the Salzburg seminar in American Studies in 1974 and the Paris School of Journalism in 1971.
