Biography

Cambridge Judge Business School Executive Education

Since 2019, I am Lecturer in Computational Chemistry at the Chemistry Department of Swansea University, while I keep my appointment as researcher affiliated to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Before joining Swansea University, I was Research Scientist (2016-2019) and Postdoctoral Fellow (2014-2016) at the Laboratory for atomistic and molecular mechanics (LAMM) of MIT, and postdoctoral associate (2011-2013) at the Quantum Chemistry Group of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium). I got my BSc and MSc in Chemical Engineering at the University of Granada (Spain), and my PhD in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, at the Modelling and Molecular Design Group of the same University.

At Swansea, I direct the «Martin-Martinez LAB», where I lead an interdisciplinary and multicultural research group focused on Nature-inspired computational materials. I am also the Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) representative and Athena Swan officer at the Chemistry Department. I teach Computational and Theoretical Chemistry, and I coordinate a module on Scientific Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Due to my research and expertise, I have worked in projects funded by NASA, NIH, NSF, ONR, AFRL, and XSEDE; and I have been involved in several collaborations with industry partners including BASF, Ferrovial, Arauco, and Henkel.

In addition to my work in academia, I am advisor on strategic innovation at PODIUM Strategy and Marketing, a strategic consultancy company; co-instructor at Station1 (USA), a start-up on social-driven innovation and education; and scientific advisor at Sweetwater Energy, an integrated biorefinery. I am also member of scientific policy group of the association Spanish Researchers in the UK (SRUK), and I was acted as President (2018-2019) and Vice-president (2016-2018) of the association Spanish Scientists in USA (ECUSA). I also act as program leader in the course “Circular Economy and Sustainability Strategies” by the Cambridge Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge and I have thought as well in the course “Machine Learning for decision making”, by the Imperial College Business School.

As a result of my professional activity, I have become member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ), and I sit in the revision panel for the European Commission Fellowships program, ADMIRE.
