Erin Linsey Hunt

Erin Hunt is an Assistant Professor at Texas Tech University's College of Architecture. She teaches design studios and seminars based on using computational design and digital fabrication methods in architecture. Formerly, Erin was a computational design intern with Nike Inc. in the NXT Digital Innovation Footwear Team. After graduating from Iowa State University, she was hired to manage and conduct research at the recently founded Computation + Construction Lab at Iowa State University. She brought machines online and developed their operational protocol.

Research Interests

Erin's research focuses on methods for incorporating digital fabrication and computation into architectural manufacturing. Her current research investigates the latent potentials of water-soluble 3D printed concrete formwork. She has explored this fabrication method through the creation of columns as well as a quarter vault for her graduate thesis. The vault looked into incorporating finite element analysis to reduce material consumption while maintaining structural stiffness. She has received two awards for her research investigating water-soluble concrete formwork, including the 2019 ACADIA Autodesk Emerging Research Award (with Shelby Elizabeth Doyle, AIA) and the 2021 Peter Rice Prize (with Yaxuan Liu) for Structural Innovation in Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
