Emanuel Powell is a Skadden Fellow and staff attorney at ArchCity Defenders in St. Louis, Missouri. His cousin Ronnie Shorter was killed by five police officers with the Greenville, Mississippi police department in 2017. His work focuses on providing legal support to other families of those who have been killed by the police or have died in state custody. Powell graduated from Harvard Law School, where he won the Gary Bellow Public Service Award. His work has been published in the Howard Human & Civil Rights Law Review and the American Criminal Law Review Online.
