Bio
Ellen Allen has been teaching at Southern Methodist University (SMU) for over 35 years. Prior to that she was a marketing representative with IBM. Her areas of expertise include spreadsheet modeling, optimization, and computer simulation. She has been recognized for teaching excellence, earning such awards as the "Outstanding ## Teaching Award" (from the Cox School of Business), the "Distinguished Professor Award" (from Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity) , the "Extra Mile Award" (from the Altshuler Learning Enhancement Center), the "H.O.P.E Award" (from the SMU Residence Life Association), the "Mortar Board Award" for outstanding commitment to students, the "SMU Outstanding Faculty Award" (from the SMU Panhellenic Association), and the "Outstanding Faculty Award" (from Paideia, the SMU Fraternity & Sorority Life organization).
Dr. Allen is a clinical professor in the information technology and operations management (ITOM) department. She currently teaches courses in spreadsheet modeling and operations research/management. She also teaches optimization in the Graduate Business Analytics Certificate Program and Introductory and Intermediate Excel skills in the Summer Business Institute.
