Research & Teaching Interests

Professor Banalieva’s research focuses on the geographic scope and institutional contexts that enable or constrain the strategies of family and non-family firms, especially from emerging markets and transition economies. Professor Banalieva’s teaching interests include conducting interactive, team-based, and cross-cultural simulations and video case studies to illustrate the complexities of doing business in an international context.

Industry & Academic Experience

Prior to joining Northeastern University’s D''Amore-McKim School of Business faculty, Professor Banalieva worked at Indiana University. She was also a research assistant for the immigrant entrepreneurs in Iowa project at Simpson College. Professor Banalieva has worked as a finance intern for Ruan Securities and Edwards Jones.

Services to the Profession

Professor Banalieva is serving as an Editorial Board Member for both the Journal of Management and the Global Strategy Journal from 2014 through 2016. Her position as a co-editor with Laszlo Tihanyi, Torben Pedersen, and Tim Devinney (eds.) for the 2015 volume of Advances in International Management will last through 2015. From 2013 through the present, she is also serving as an Editorial Review Board Member for the Management and Organization review. Professor Banalieva was an Invited Proposal Evaluator for 2013 and 2014. Starting in 2012 through the present, she has held a position as an Editorial Review Board Member for the Strategic Management Review.
