Fisher College of Business
Background
Douglas E. Evans is a senior lecturer in the Management Sciences department. He joined Fisher in 2010 after spending 12 years in industry, where he gained experience in the manufacturing, service and medical sectors. At Fisher, he teaches business statistics, industrial designed experiments, lean/Six Sigma principles and lean/Six Sigma projects.
In his Six Sigma projects class, Evans works with local businesses and nonprofits to identify challenges for a team of Fisher students, who he then mentors throughout the semester. One team of students Evans mentored worked with Ohio State’s facilities department and helped it realize an annual hard savings of over $200,000 through process improvement implementation.
Evans joined Fisher from Quest Diagnostics, where he was director of Lean Six Sigma training. He also worked as a senior consultant at George Group, where he implemented blended learning, and Corning, where as a senior statistician he conducted many statistically designed experiments to help double the yield of glass. One of his most notable contributions was discovering the root cause of a glass defect that plagued the business for more than two years. Evans also worked at General Electric, where he became a lean/Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Prior to his industry career, Evans served in the U.S. Air Force for more than 20 years before retiring.
