Research interests

I am Professor of Accounting and Finance at the  University of Bath and the Head of Department (Research) in the Accounting and Finance Group of the School of Management. I am as well the External Examiner for  Imperial College, London  (Full Time MBA and Executive MBA), the  University of Leeds  (Postgraduate Finance Courses), the  University of Sheffield  (Undergraduate Finance Courses) and the University of Strathclyde (Postgraduate Courses). I am a Senior Visiting Research Fellow in the School of Business Management and Economics of the University of Sussex and Visiting fellow in Newcastle University Business School of Newcastle University.

Prior to joining the School of Management,  University of Bath  I held a Professorial Position at Newcastle University Business School,  Newcastle University.  Previously I worked for the  University of Sussex  (School of Business, Management and Economics), the  University of Surrey  (Surrey Business School) and the  University of Manchester  (Manchester Business School). I also worked on several private companies and government consulting projects related with electronics and telecommunications. I obtained degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Leeds _and the _University of Bradford. In addition he holds an  MBA from Leeds University Business School - University of Leeds  and a  PhD from Manchester Business School - University of Manchester.  Finally, I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Surrey .

My main  Research Interest  lies in the areas of InternationalAccounting and Corporate Finance. I specializes on Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and he is known for his continuous research involvement on this field.  research also address issues in Bonds Structure, Corporate Governance, Executive Compensation and Earnings Management.  My work has attracted the interest of the markets and as a result of this I was  honoured with a Gong Ceremony by the Oldest Stock Exchange in the world, the NYSE – Euronext   Amsterdam. Further to this distinction I was invited to deliver a speech in Amsterdam Stock Exchange on the ‘Global development of IPOs Research’.  My presentation was well attended by market makers and bankers and attracted the interest of the media as I was interviewed by the main Dutch Television Network, RTL.

I have been published extensively in highly ranked  International Journals  in Finance including the Journal of Corporate Finance (ABS 4), Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Research, European Financial Management, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting as well as in other disciplines including Economic History Review (ABS 4), Annals of Tourism Research (ABS 4), Transportation Research Part E (ABS 3*, Impact Factor 2,676), Maritime Policy and Management (Impact Factor 1,447) etc. My research has been presented on various highly rated US and European conferences including the prestigious American Accounting Association Annual Conference. Special moment has been the best paper award I received by the International Association of Maritime Economist (IAME2009). I have been invited on research seminars by several institutions, in the UK and Europe. My recognition among the UK academic society appears from the fact that I have been invited 31 times as PhD External Examiner by thirteen different UK Institutions (overall I have examined 36 PhD Thesis). I serve as an ad-hoc referee in several academic journals and at the Editorial Board of the International Journal in Accounting and Corporate Governance: An International Review. 

In collaboration with a colleague; I have received a generous  Research  Grant on Energy Economics by the Dutch Government. I also participates in a consortium under ''Surrey Space Center'' on a big project concerning the ''Procurement and Development of an Active Debris Removalhttps://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png Mission''. Further, I received a small grant to research the first IPO ever listed in the world (maritime company VOC was listed in 1602). This involvement intrigued me to explore IPOs on various historical perspectives by expanding in other stock markets. This experience is valuable on my role an independent Initial Public Offerings advisor. I am a visiting-academic in several Business Schools teaching in MBA and MSc programmes. I am an independent Initial Public Offerings Consultant and has strong links with markets including London and Amsterdam Stock Exchanges. 

 

His research has received excessive  Media  attention with special features in " Columbia University  Law School", “The BBC”, “The Guardian”, “The Independent”, “The Daily Mail”, “The Irish Times”, “BBC Radio”, “BNR Netherlands National Radio”, from the UK to the US and China.
