About

Dennis has been a full time clinical professor in human resources at Loyola University Chicago since 2011. Prior to joining Loyola full time, he taught at Loyola part-time as well as at North Central College in Naperville and has taught seminars for a management association for more than 25 years. Dennis received the HR Faculty of the Year Award in 2016.

He had a long career in human resources, mainly for large US based multinational organizations in which he held senior-level human resources roles. Companies included Arthur Andersen, where he was partner and managing director of human resources, and Aon, where he was the vice president, compensation and benefits. Other companies included Peoples Energy, Continental Bank, US Cellular, and Andrew Corporation.

Dennis is the faculty liaison for the Human Resource Student Association (HRSA), which is affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and sponsored by the Northern Illinois chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management (NISHRM). HRSA endeavors to develop human resources students into future, dynamic human resources and business professionals. HRSA accomplishes its objectives through the organization of career development activities, participation in philanthropic activities demonstrating HRSA’s desire to provide support to the community, and hosting social activities to allow members to meet and mingle with each other, alumni, administration, faculty, and/or potential employers. In addition, HRSA hopes to actively promote, facilitate, and maintain a top-tier human resources program that is recognized nationally by employers, academic institutions, and professional organizations.

Some programs that have been offered through HRSA includes a special program on “gender diversity” which involved a presentation of survey data by a consulting firm and comments by a panel of human resources executives, a human resources panel of executives from nonprofit organizations, a workshop on how best to use LinkedIn for job search presented by an executive from the job search industry, and company visits to companies such as Northern Trust, Exelon, Hyatt and Morningstar where students met with human resources executives and heard them discuss how they operate their human resources programs.

Dennis has implemented a program for students to obtain certification in Human Resource Management from the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). Dennis also teaches seminars for a management association.

Dennis also worked with SHRM in renewing the certification of the Masters in Human Resources program and also obtaining SHRM certification of the undergraduate program in Human Resources for the first time.
