Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy

Dawn Chow is Senior Research Fellow at the Asia Competitiveness Institute, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. She is also a Visiting Scholar (non-resident) at the Global Governance Institute at University College London.

At the ACI, Dawn oversees the Research Cluster on SMEs and innovation, and other related areas of research. For example, she studies how business ecosystems enable SME innovation, for instance in terms of Corporate Social Innovation.

Dawn is rated highly in terms of research and thought leadership by her academic colleagues. For example, in 2020 she was named as a thinker on the CBOS Thinklist. Dawn’s main areas of research are in political ideology (of firms as well as top management teams) and how this affects corporate behavior, M&As, attachment to home country and talent retention, as well as business ethics. In terms of journal publications, Dawn has published in high-impact outlets such as the Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Organization Studies and the Journal of Business Ethics (both Financial Times Top 50 journals), the Asia Pacific Journal of Management, the Journal of International Management, and the Journal of Business Research.

Dawn has also led grant research teams and won numerous competitive grants. For instance, in her capacity as Principal Investigator, she has been awarded two Hong Kong Government Research Council Grants worth a total of HKD 1,812,662.

Dawn is also very active in terms of service to academia. She is Editorial Board Member for the Academy of Management Review, the leading Theory journal in the field, and she is a consulting editor at the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology. She is also Executive Board Member for the Academy of International Business Asia-Pacific Region Chapter.

In terms of her previous academic appointments, Dawn was Research Assistant Professor at the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University, and prior to that was a Lecturer at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. She was awarded the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Research Scholarship from 2011-2016, and she graduated with a PhD in Business from the same University in July 2016. Dawn also has an MBA (Distinction) from the University of Warwick, UK, and a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Economics degree from NUS.
