Biography

David M. Sluss, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Scheller College of Business, Georgia Tech. His research focuses on how individuals cooperate, relate, and thrive at work. He is particularly interested in how individuals become attached to work via work role-relationships, work groups, organizations, and occupations. He especially interested in how these processes play out for new employees, new leaders, technical professionals, and nomadic or contingent workers. 

He has published research in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and Organization Science. He currently serves on the editorial boards for Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, and Journal of Applied Psychology. He previously served as an Associate Editor at Organizational Psychology Review. 

Prior to his doctoral studies, he was Vice President and Partner at PathWise (a boutique management training consultancy). He designed and facilitated management seminars on topics such as leadership, performance coaching, problem solving & decision making, and project management for clients within the technology and pharmaceutical sectors. He currently is active educating executives and high potential managers on topics such as leadership and change management. He takes a diagnostic, analytical and behavioral approach to facilitating leadership development.

He has also worked with organizations throughout the U.S., Latin America, and Europe. Fluent in Spanish, he has worked extensively in Mexico and Puerto Rico. Combining previous and current activities, a partial list includes: Abbott Laboratories (U.S. and Puerto Rico), Argos (Colombia), Baxter Pharmaceuticals (U.S. & Belgium), Cisco Systems, Coca-Cola, IBM (U.S. & Ireland), McKesson, Palmetto Health, Sonoco, Society of Telecommunication & Cable Engineers, The Organization for the Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Telekom/Mobilkom (Austria), Verbund (Austria), and URS [Washington Division].

Academic Research Interests: Work role-relationships, Relational identity / identification, Organizational identification, Newcomer adjustment process, Nomadic professionals, and Dirty-work occupations.
