Biography

IE Business School

Dr. David F. Robinson is a dedicated professor of entrepreneurship and innovation on leave from Indiana State University teaching full-time at the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid during 2019-20. His entrepreneurial philosophy is that adversity is the “mother of invention” where something bad (or significant) is needed to cause us to break out of our current thinking and look at things in a unique way. Helping students learn to recognize problems as opportunities and then how to create solutions and turn them into businesses is his focus in teaching entrepreneurship.

Dr. Robinson´s past research has included peer reviewed articles in the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Technology and Innovation Management, and Health Care Management Review. He has presented at the Academy of Management annual meetings, INFORMS, and the Strategic Management Society. His current research addresses how entrepreneurship in medical devices creates an ecosystem for large medical device companies to harvest innovation. In addition, he has developed experiential teaching methods to help students learn to solve problems and innovate. His students created and managed the college´s café for eight years.

Dr. Robinson consults with entrepreneurs in an athletic apparel collector startup, and a cannabis/cbd oil collaboration between Spain and New Zealand. As a social entrepreneur, Dr. Robinson helped transform a social service agency in constructing housing projects (including “tiny homes”) for mentally ill homeless people and veterans.

His international experience includes teaching, work and research in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, China, Thailand, Singapore, Japan and most of South America.
