Dr. Powell brings to CCL 25 years of expertise in human behavior, training and development, and tests and measurement to developing leadership within the executive ranks of Fortune 500 corporations and companies in North and South America, Asia, and Europe.

David is a founding member of the Innovation Lab within Research, Innovation, and Product Development at CCL. The goal of the CCL Innovation Lab is to “find, create and validate groundbreaking leadership development innovations for new products, services and business models to advance CCL’s business and mission worldwide.” Within the Innovation Lab, David is responsible for managing a variety of projects that validate innovative concepts; create prototypes, simulations and other experiential demonstrations that guide CCL’s thinking and decision-making; and craft future scenarios to guide CCL’s strategies and product/service development investments. In addition, David is Senior Faculty and an Executive Coach.

In his role as Senior Faculty, David designs and trains in a variety of custom CCL programs and is the co-director of the California Healthcare Leadership College. As an Executive Coach, he coaches leaders in creating a climate of innovation within their organizations.

Prior to his role in CCL’s Innovation Lab, David was responsible for leading a team of over 90 adjunct professionals who provide coaching and adjunct services for the Center. In this role David had responsibility for recruiting, selecting, developing and managing the quality of CCL’s leadership coaches in the Western United States, Mexico and South America.

Before coming to CCL, David was vice president of Vista Health Plans, an HMO in California. As the past Mayor of the City of Solana Beach, David represented his city on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Association of Governments and the League of California Cities.

David earned his B.A.in Philosophy and Political Science from University of California, Santa Barbara; his M.S. in Counseling Education from San Diego State University; and his Pd.D. in Psychology from Alliant International University. He is a licensed Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist (California).
