Biography
David M. Porter, Jr. is the executive vice president of Strategy, People + Culture at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. As a member of the senior executive team, his focus is on evolving and integrating the strategy, people, and risk functions to increase effectiveness and bring innovation to public service.
Prior to joining the Bank in 2021, Dr. Porter served as chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer at UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business. A devoted public servant and accomplished scholar, he’s also served as chief executive officer for the Walter Katz Foundation, a non-profit organization serving as a catalyst for increasing workforce and supplier diversity. In addition, Dr. Porter was the director of graduate programs at Howard University’s School of Business and spent eight years at UCLA where he was a professor in human resources and organizational behavior and a faculty director in executive education.
Dr. Porter is a graduate of Harvard University, where he received a PhD in organizational behavior and an MA in sociology. He also holds a BS and MS in industrial engineering and an MA in sociology from Stanford University.
