Biography

Dave Bouckenooghe began teaching at Goodman School of Business in 2009. He earned his PhD, MSc, and BSc from Ghent University. He teaches courses in the areas of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources, including HR analytics Human Resource Planning, Organizational Behaviour & Design, and Leading Change.

Bouckenooghe has experience in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels in different institutions including NEOMA Business School in France and Vlerick Management School in Belgium.

In 2012, Bouckenooghe received the BUSU Award for Teaching Excellence and was nominated for the Graduate Mentorship Award (Brock University) in 2013. Bouckenooghe also received multiple rewards for his research from the OB division from Southern Management Association (2018 - Best Conference Paper Award), International Conference on Innovation and Management (2015 - Best Conference Paper Award), ODC division of the Academy of Management (2008 - Student Best Paper Award), the OB division from ASAC (2010 - Best paper) and the Paul Hersey Best Paper Award from Journal of Management and Entrepreneurship (2006). Finally, he received the Goodman Distinguished Scholar of the Year Award 2019.

He is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science (NTL institute), and member of the editorial review board of Journal of Organizational Behavior.

RESEARCH AREA

Bouckenooghe’s research focuses on the pivotal role of employees in organizations. He is especially interested in how people and organizations are impacted by change and failure, and how they make sense of and respond to change and change failure. He is also doing research on the role of leadership (i.e., abusive leadership, authentic leadership, servant leadership, etc.) and positive resources (i.e., work engagement, psychological capital, and emotional intelligence) in shaping in-role job performance, extra-role behaviors (OCB, creativity, etc.) and counterproductive behaviors.

Bouckenooghe's work appears or is forthcoming in leading management and I&O psychology journals such as Journal of Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Human Relations, Journal of Business and Psychology, European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology, Journal of Business Research among others. He also reviews for a variety of other leading scholarly journals, including Journal of Management Studies, Human Relations, and Human Resource Management Review.
