CBS Executive

Presentation

My research in sociology explores the ways in which social relations and technology shape financial value. My award-winning study of a derivatives trading room on a Wall Street bank traces the roots of extraordinary returns to the use of space and internal organization. Since 2007, I have conducted a large-scale research project on the emergence of the responsible investment field, including shareholder engagement and ESG data; and a three-year ethnography of automation at the NYSE. My ongoing book project with Princeton University Press explores the organization of derivatives traders on Wall Street. I obtained my PhD from New York University and taught Columbia Business School in New York City and the London School of Economics before joining CBS in 2017.
