Biography

Weatherhead School of Management

Corinne A. Coen received her BA in American culture from the University of Michigan, an MBA from the University of Chicago with specializations in marketing and finance, and a PhD from the University of Michigan in organizational behavior. Her research focuses on the dynamics of teamwork, including issues of cooperation, competition, and resilience. In addition, she investigates basic questions surrounding best practices for forming teams given members’ past experience and current interdependence.

Employing computational simulations, Coen explores how people’s behaviors affect each other. Since teamwork depends on a careful balance of reciprocal transactions, she describes personal responses leading to emergent group outcomes and helps identify leverage points that move groups into vicious or virtuous circles of change.

Coen’s interest in successful teamwork grew out of her experiences in corporate settings, both as a senior manager and as a consultant implementing change processes with senior members of major corporations. She continues to assist managers of firms in their quest to improve the quality of their interactions for the benefit of the company and its individual members.

Meanwhile, Coen’s research has been published in leading academic journals including Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Organizational Science, Computational and Mathematical Organization Theory, and Simulation in Practice and Theory. She has twice been recognized in the Best Paper Proceedings of the Academy of Management.
