Biography

Experience

  • Dr Lim Chin Tat is an orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
  • He has a special interest in complex joint replacement, robotic-assisted joint replacement, and sports surgeries.
  • Prior to joining private practice, Dr Lim was serving as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the National University Hospital.
  • Dr Lim graduated from the faculty of medicine at National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2004, and completed his master’s degree in medicine in 2012. In 2016, Dr Lim entered as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Orthopaedic), Singapore.
  • Dr Lim was awarded the Ministry of Health scholarship for dual advanced fellowship trainings. He undertook clinical fellowship in adult reconstruction and sports surgery at Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford University Hospital Trust, NHS, in 2015. There, he gained proficiency in sports surgeries, hip arthroscopy, uni-compartmental knee replacement, and complex hip and knee replacement.
  • Thereafter, Dr Lim also completed a 12-month clinical fellowship in adult reconstruction at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Stanford University, California, USA, in 2016. He was involved in the management of complex primary and revision hip and knee surgeries as well as sports surgeries. He was also involved in the management of outpatient joint replacement surgeries in both centres.
  • Upon completion of the fellowships, Dr Lim was accepted as an International Fellow of American College of Surgeons in 2017. Being a part of only a small handful of orthopaedic surgeons in Singapore who completed clinical fellowship in the USA, Dr Lim is 1 of only 3 orthopaedic surgeons who has been accepted into the American College of Surgeons.
  • Dr Lim was also an assistant professor at the department of orthopaedic surgery at NUS’ Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
  • He has been very active in teaching and training undergraduate students, resident doctors as well as specialist doctors from the region. Dr Lim was the deputy undergraduate medical education director of the department of orthopaedic surgery at NUS, and core faculty member of the NUHS National PGY1 Programme. In recognition of his teaching, Dr Lim was awarded the Residents’ Choice Award.
  • Dr Lim is passionate about delivering quality care. He participated in the 2019 Ministry of Health Value-Driven care conference and was awarded one of the top 10 posters for implementing quality care among patients who received total hip replacement.
  • Dr Lim has also been very active in clinical and basic science research. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles. His main research interest is in biomechanical analysis of hip, knee and ankle prosthesis as well as research into interventions that prolong prosthesis longevity and survival. His current research involves designing joint replacement implants, that could be better suited for Asian populations. He is also involved in re-designing surgical jigs for surgeons, for better ergonomics and user-friendliness.
  • He was awarded the P Balasubramaniam Young Orthopaedic Investigator's Award in 2012 for his translational research on autologous bone marrow stem cell transplantation for knee cartilage regeneration. Dr Lim was also awarded the NUS Leadership in Academic Medicine Mentoring Program Award in 2012.
  • On a personal front, Dr Lim has been actively involved in community service and volunteer work. Dr Lim also regularly holds public awareness talks on orthopaedic conditions.
