Haslam College of Business

Charles Noon is a professor in the Department of Business Analytics and Statistics at the University of Tennessee. He teaches in the Physician’s EMBA program, the full-time MBA program, the PhD program, and in a number of executive education programs. His teaching interests include operational improvement, business modeling, simulation, and decision analysis and support. He is the developer and faculty lead for the 5-day Lean for Healthcare program offered through the Center for Executive Education. He is the recipient of numerous teaching awards and serves as a teaching mentor for junior faculty.

His research concerns computer-based models for operational improvement and his published works have appeared in a diverse range of publications including Operations Research, Interfaces, Journal of Healthcare Management, Transportation Science, European Journal of Operational Research, Networks & Spatial Economics, and Biomass & Bioenergy.

His professional experience includes first-line supervision at the Procter & Gamble Company, Director of Research at Jewelry Television, and large-scale modeling or teaching engagements with a number of organizations including Team Health, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Healthcare Association of New York State, Philips Consumer Electronics, Dell Computers, Tennessee Valley Authority, Sears, Martin-Marietta, and the Electric Power Research Institute. To stay current, he periodically consults with healthcare systems on process improvement, capacity planning, and staff scheduling.
