Research Statement
Professor Bonini has studied the applications of quantitative and statistical techniques to business decision problems. These techniques include decision analysis, optimization models, queuing and processing systems, simulation, and data mining. He has authored and coauthored a number of text books explaining these techniques and illustrating their applications.
Bio
Professor Bonini did his graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon University and directly took a position on the faculty at the Stanford Business School in 1959. Over the ensuing years he has taught a number of courses in the MBA, Doctoral, and Sloan programs. These courses have included Decision Analysis, Statistics and Data Analysis, Modeling and Simulation, Management Information Systems, and Data Mining. He has authored or coauthored a number of text books on these subjects, including Quantitative Analysis for Management now in its 9th edition.
Over the six year period from 1987 to 1993 he served as Associate Dean of the School and Director of the MBA Program. In 1999 he received the Robert T Davis award for extraordinary contributions to the School.
Professor Bonini has also been active in teaching in the GSB Executive Education programs. In particular, Stanford has had a Senior Manager Executive Education Program joint with the National University of Singapore that has been held in Singapore and Hong Kong. He has taught in, and codirected, this program for most of the 25 years of its existence.
Professor Bonini has also been very active in the Decision Sciences Institute, a professional society, serving as President in 1977-78, elected Fellow, and awarded the Distinguished Service Award.
