Catherine L. Ward holds a PhD in Clinical-Community Psychology from the University of South Carolina, USA. Since graduating, she worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and then Research Office in the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at the University of Cape Town, at the Human Sciences Research Council, and most recently in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cape Town, where she still teaches. She is registered as a clinical psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

Research Interest Areas

She is interested in the prevention of violence from the perspective of children’s development (how do we prevent child maltreatment? how do we prevent children from growing up to commit violent acts?), and especially in public health approaches to prevention. Most recently she has been working on parenting programmes to prevent violence, including the Parenting for Lifelong Health suite of programmes.
