Babson Olin Graduate School of Business

Academic Division: Accounting & LawCarolyn was appointed Dean of Faculty in December 2010. As Dean of Faculty, she is responsible for faculty recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention. She’s also responsible for developing faculty programs and policies that build a climate of thought leadership, excellence in teaching, excellence in research, and for developing a faculty that meets the strategic needs of the College’s academic programs. She is the voice of the faculty in discussions that develop and implement the College’s institutional strategies. Professor Hotchkiss joined the Babson faculty in January 1986, and has taught core law and ethics courses and electives in International Business Law and in Public International Law. In 2000, she was awarded the Charles M. Hewitt award for teaching excellence by the Academy of Legal Studies in Business. In 2005, she received the Deans’ Award for Excellence in Teaching in the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College. Professor Hotchkiss’ scholarly interests are in the areas of international law and the impact of new technologies on law and business. She has written extensively in these areas, including articles on international commercial law, corruption in international business, and global intellectual property issues, especially those involving digital technologies. She is the author of International Law for Business (McGraw-Hill, 1994), and is a contributing author to several textbooks on Business Law. Before joining the faculty at Babson, Professor Hotchkiss practiced law in New York, with the firm of Webster & Sheffield, was in-house counsel to Pratt Institute and Mount Holyoke College, and taught at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Western New England College of Law. She is a member of the Bar in New York and Massachusetts, and active in a variety of professional associations. ​
