Biography

Harvard Medical School

Dr. Diaz Garcia will be collaborating with Dr. Gary Yellen on studying the control of glycolysis by energy state, and the metabolic responses to stimulation throughout the neuronal anatomy. These projects will involve the design and testing of plasmids encoding the genetic information for fluorescent biosensors, the production of AAV particles to deliver these plasmids to brain tissue, and the deployment and imaging of these biosensors in several cellular compartments. These projects also involve measuring the concentration of several metabolites in individual neurons within hippocampal slices, using multiphoton excitation and fluorescence lifetime imaging. These activities are related to his previous work as a postdoctoral researcher, which has paved the way for a collaboration between the laboratory of Professor Gary Yellen and his new laboratory at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
