Fordham University

Carla De Ycaza (PhD International Human Rights Law, National University of Ireland Galway; MA Human Rights, Columbia University; BA Political Science and Classics, Vassar College) teaches at the Center for Global Affairs at New York University and specializes in international human rights law and transitional justice.

She has served as Editor of the Dialogues on Historical Justice and Memory Network at the Institute for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University, and Editor in Chief of the Interdisciplinary Journal of Human Rights Law. She has worked at various organizations including the Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding, the Norwegian Refugee Council and the International Peace Institute. She has taught courses in human rights, transitional justice, memory studies, international law, international criminal law, international justice, genocide studies, international relations, African civil wars, social justice, social policy and human rights advocacy at various academic institutions including New York University, Fordham University, and Hunter College.

Carla has published in Ufahamu: A Journal of African Studies, the Human Rights Review, Societies Without Borders, the International Studies Review, the African Journal of Conflict Resolution, and the New York International Law Review. In 2016, she co-edited a volume entitled Remembering the Rescuers of Victims of Human Rights Crimes in Latin America, published by Lexington Books.

Carla has also worked with several civil society organizations in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda.
