Dr. Carl D. Marci is Chief Neuroscientist at Nielsen Consumer Neuroscience and co-founder, former Chairman of the Board, and former Chief Science Officer of Innerscope Research. Nielsen acquired Innerscope Research in May 2015. He still holds the position of Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and is a part-time physician at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has extensive training in the use of neurometrics and biological measures and the neuroscience of emotion through two National Institutes of Health fellowships. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed science journals, gives lectures regionally, nationally, and internationally and is a leader in the field of social and consumer neuroscience. Dr. Marci is also a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute and is a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.

Dr. Marci’s academic research projects include the physiology and neurobiology of emotion and empathy as well as the creation of physiologic and behavioral measures of depression. His academic goals are to quantify the relationship between physiologic measures, emotions, and social interaction in a variety of settings to help improve our understanding of the psychobiology of empathy, learning, and human inter-relatedness in a world that is rapidly evolving with technology and media exposure. His entrepreneurial experience includes two former technology start-ups, one in healthcare information technology and one in remote sensing technology. Innerscope Research was a leading consumer neuroscience media and marketing research firm integrating technologies and applied sciences to allow clients to make better business decisions. It was acquired by the Nielsen Company in 2015.
