Harvard Kennedy School
Carl Byers is an Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and an Adjunct Lecturer on Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Byers also works as an Executive Partner at F-Prime Capital Partners, a healthcare focused venture capital fund whose sole limited partner is Fidelity. From 1997 to 2010, Byers served as Chief Financial Officer at athenahealth, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATHN), where he was a member of the founding team. After athenahealth, Byers worked as a consultant in micro-finance (in Chile) and as the financial officer of a health and water related social venture (in India). Prior to the founding of athenahealth, Byers was a management consultant at Booz, Allen & Hamilton in New York. Byers serves on the board of The Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Wesleyan University. in 2017, he was appointed by Massachsetts Governor Charlie Baker to the Massachusetts Digital Healthcare Council. He is also a director or board observer on the for-profit boards of Buoy Health, Netsmart Technologies, Quartet Health, Stride Health, VitalWare and Wellframe. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University, where he earned a B.A. in the College of Social Studies. Byers was a Business Fellow at The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He also earned a Masters in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
