Biography

Professor Smith received his MBA from University Chicago and began his career at Procter and Gamble then Pepsico in advertising, brand management and classic packaged goods marketing.  After advancing quickly for eight years with two of the world''s best marketing companies, Byron transitioned into high tech.  First came five years at GTE Wireless (now Verizon) with last running all sales and field marketing.  Moving to AT&T in 1999, he ran the Consumer Long Distance Business: Domestic and Global and then EVP/GM and Chief Marketing Officer with Excite @ Home where he managed media companies, broadband internet infrastructure and the world of venture capital.  After a year of sabbatical, he joined Asurion in Nashville as EVP/CMO.  Following his retirement in 2007 he became a private investor and consultant.
