UW Professional & Continuing Education

Brian Henn, a native of the Bay Area, is a licensed civil engineer in California and has been teaching civil engineering courses at the University of Washington School of Professional and Continuing Education since 2012. He is a postdoctoral scholar at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, where he works in the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes (CW3E).

He studied in civil and environmental engineering and received his bachelor's degree from Princeton, master's from Stanford and Ph.D. from the University of Washington. His interests are in hydrology, water resources, infrastructure, observing and understanding precipitation from atmospheric rivers making landfall over the mountainous terrain of the western United States and its effects on hydrology and water resources. He worked as an engineer on urban stormwater and sustainability projects at Hazen and Sawyer in New York City.
