Fuqua School of Business

Bob Slater is a former trial lawyer with 25 years of experience in commercial real estate development, management, and investment. He helped build two national real estate companies—AvalonBay Communities (NYSE symbol AVB), a real estate investment trust now among the S&P 500; and Bell Partners, one of the nation’s largest privately-owned apartment companies. Bob has also taught undergraduate and MBA students for more than ten years at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler School of Business and, recently, MBA students at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He serves on the Board of Directors of Draper and Kramer, Inc. in Chicago.

Bob is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia School of Law. He is the father of three sons, including co-author Nick. He lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with his wife Jane and bulldog Winnie.
