Mendoza College of Business

Bob Bretz is the Joe and Jane Giovanini Professor of Management. He is best known for his research on the job search and choice process and issues related to career success. Reflecting his focus on the person rather than the organization, his published work appears mostly in the Journal of Applied Psychology and Personnel Psychology and has received awards from both the Careers Division and the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management. His article, “Job Search Behavior of Employed Managers” was the recipient of the Academy of Management HR Division’s Scholarly Achievement Award for 1995. Bretz is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Association for Psychological Science (APS), and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP). After joining the Notre Dame faculty in 1997, Professor Bretz served four consecutive terms (1998 – 2009) as the Chair of the Management Department. He is a Faculty Fellow of Notre Dame''s Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning and has received Outstanding Professor awards from Notre Dame’s MBA and MNA Programs, as well as the Notre Dame Presidential Award for exceptional service to the University.
