McCourt School of Public Policy

Beryl A. Radin joined the faculty at GPPI in January 2012. Prior to that she was a scholar in residence in the Department of Public Administration and Policy at American University. She is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and the editor of the book series on Public Management and Change at Georgetown University Press. Her government service included an assignment as a special advisor to the assistant secretary for management and budget of the US Department of Health and Human Services. She calls herself a "pracademic" because she has moved back and forth between the world of the practitioner and that of the academic. Professor Radin has written a number of books and articles on public policy and public management issues, including BEYOND MACHIAVELLI; POLITICAL ANALYSIS COMES OF AGE and a 2nd Edition of that book(Georgetown University Press); THE ACCOUNTABLE JUGGLER: THE ART OF LEADERSHIP IN A FEDERAL AGENCY (CQ Press); CHALLENGING THE PERFORMANCE MOVEMENT: ACCOUNTABILITY, COMPLEXITY AND DEMOCRATIC VALUES (Georgetown University Press); and FEDERAL MANAGEMENT REFORM IN A WORLD OF CONTRADICTIONS (Georgetown University Press). She is a past president of the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management, former head of the public administration section of the American Political Science Association, and editor of the JOURNAL OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION RESEARCH AND THEORY from 2000 to 2005. She received the 2012 John Gaus award from the American Political Science Association for career achievement; the 2009 H. George Frederickson Award for career achievement in scholarship from the Public Management Research Association; and was the recipient of the 2002 Donald Stone Award given by the American Society for Public Administration's section on intergovernmental management.
