Dr. Belinda Dodson is a human geographer whose research examines the intersection of gender, migration and development, with a regional focus on Southern Africa. Based in Ottawa, she is Coordinating Editor of Canadian Journal of African Studies. From 2002 to 2017, she was a tenured Associate Professor of Geography at Western University in London, Ontario. She retains an Adjunct Research Professor position at Western and also holds adjunct positions at the Institute of African Studies at Carleton University in Ottawa, and at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Dodson has a BSc Honours degree from the University of Kwazulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, and a PhD in Geography from Cambridge University. She was a lecturer at the University of Cape Town from 1990 to 1997. Her work has been published in edited volumes and in academic journals including Africa Today, Canadian Journal of African Studies, Geoforum, Gender Place and Culture, Health and Place, Migration and Development, South African Geographical Journal, and Feminist Review. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on International Development, Migration, and Theoretical Debates in Geography. She has also been engaged as a gender advisor and consultant to government and other organizations and is available for similar opportunities within her areas of expertise.
