Research Summary

I analyse the political economy of financial globalisation, its debt politics, and the growing antagonisms between the imperatives of private expertise/markets and democratic self-determination, to provide insights into the pressing issues animating debt/crisis management, international development, and transnational financial governance today and how they will play out tomorrow. Given the dangers of an increasingly concentrated economic space, but a more polarising politics, I am involved in projects that problematise how authoritative knowledge is constituted and expertise deployed through risk/uncertainty management in the political economy of creditworthiness, and what financial globalisation means for some of the most fundamental challenges facing debt/democratic politics to date, such as the stable development of emerging markets (BRICs) and the integrity of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).
