I regularly organise French-related cultural events at the University of Manchester that connect to my teaching specialism in contemporary French culture, and to my research in popular music more broadly. For instance in November 2012, we welcomed JD Beauvallet, French music journalist and co-founder of the cult rock magazine Les Inrockuptibles. The workshop with JD Beauvallet was led by my final-year students and open to the general public (you can listen to the podcast).
On 30 January 2015, I organised the ''Are we Charlie?'' roundtable to contextualise the Paris killings, crossing perspectives from French Studies, History and Middle Eastern Studies. We welcomed Olivier Cyran, former journalist with Charlie Hebdo, and this public event was also recorded (podcast here: Are we Charlie?)
I am a member of the following editorial boards (peer-reviewed academic journals):
- Popular Music
- IASPM@Journal
- Volume! (international advisory board)
I am also a regular peer-reviewer for the journals Modern and Contemporary France and_Contemporary French Civilization_.
