Professor Azra Ghani is an infectious disease epidemiologist in the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis at Imperial College London. She has worked on a wide range of infectious diseases, including BSE and variant CJD, sexually transmitted infections including HIV, SARS, influenza and malaria. Since early 2020 she has been actively involved in supporting the public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic, advising the UK government and numerous international agencies on the scale of outbreaks and impact of interventions.

She is currently a member of the WHO Malaria Policy Advisory Committee and a policy advisor and trustee for the international charity Malaria No More UK. She was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2017, awarded the Chalmers Medal by the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in 2017, the Unilver Colworth Prize by the Microbiology Society in 2021 and appointed a Member of the British Order (MBE) in the 2021 Birthday Honours.
