Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy

She joined Tufts University in the fall of 1999, assuming the esteemed position of a tenured full professor. Since 2003, she has held a dual appointment at the History Department and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, currently serving as the distinguished holder of the Mary Richardson chair. Following her undergraduate studies at Wellesley College, where she majored in history and political science, she pursued her doctorate in history at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, successfully completing it in 1983.

Throughout her academic journey, she has been affiliated with prestigious institutions. She was a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge, from 1980 to 1984, a Leverhulme Fellow at the Centre of South Asian Studies, Cambridge, from 1984 to 1987, a Fellow of the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars in Washington, DC, from 1985 to 1986, and an Academy Scholar at the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies from 1988 to 1990. In recognition of her scholarly contributions, she was honored as a MacArthur Fellow from 1998 to 2003.

Over the years, she has shared her expertise and knowledge at various esteemed institutions, including the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Tufts University, Columbia University, and Harvard University. Her impressive academic background and extensive teaching experience have made her a highly respected figure in the field of history and international relations.
