The Florida International University College of Business

Professor Chacar is an accomplished expert on Global Business Strategy with specialised studies including the impact of institutions on global business strategy, firm performance, leadership, and value appropriation. As an active member in her field, Professor Chacar is a member of the Executive Committee (Board) of the Academy of Management International Management (IM) Division and Past Program Chair. Additionally she serves on the board of the Journal of International Business Studies, the Global Strategy Journal and on the advisory board of Industry & Innovation. Professor Chacar earned her PhD from UCLA and moved on to be an Assistant Professor at the London Business School. She has had visiting appointments at INSEAD, H.E.C., Ohio State University, the University of Utah and Balamand University.

Professor Chacar’s research has been published in the top field journals including the Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of International Business Studies and the Journal of Management Studies. This research has received numerous accolades including the Best Paper Award from both the Academy of International Business (AIB) and the Academy of Management International Management Division (AOM-IM). Her research has been featured in a New Yorker article by Malcolm Gladwell. She has also received awards and grants including awards from CIBER and the Kauffman Foundation. Aya Chacar has taught in various face-to-face and online executive and graduate programs and company-specific programs and has received the Best Course Award. Professor Chacar’s works closely with her PhD students who have won best paper and proposal awards.

Professor Chacar is committed to continuing service and has served the field in numerous leadership roles. In 2016 she served as the AIB Junior Faculty Consortium (JFC) co-chair, in 2015 as PDW Chair for AOM-IM, in 2014 as track chairwoman at the 2014 AIB conference and chair of the AOM-IM’s JFC, in 2011 as the Associate Chair for the Strategic Management Society Meeting Miami meeting, and other. She also serves or has served or chaired numerous university committees including Screen and Search, Ph.D. programs and Research. She has also organizing a seminar series for the South Florida Community for over 10 years.
