Auyon Siddiq

Auyon Siddiq joined the faculty of UCLA Anderson in 2018. His research takes place at the intersection of data analytics, operations management and public policy.

Siddiq’s current focus is on the development of mathematical models that draw from game theory and statistics to address challenges in the public sector. A recent project addresses the design of reimbursement contracts for health care providers. “Escalating health care costs have led to the creation of new Medicare programs that incentivize providers to reduce spending,” Siddiq says. “One of my research objectives is to determine how to restructure these contracts to improve their cost efficiency.”

Beyond health care, Siddiq has also worked on developing new methods in data analytics and optimization, leading to publications in Operations Research and recognition with multiple national research awards.

Siddiq’s belief in the value of using quantitative models to address complex, societal problems led him to pursue a Ph.D. in operations research at the University of California, Berkeley, where he received three teaching awards. “The beauty of operations management is that the quantitative tools are portable: they can be applied as readily to the study of transportation as to health care, given appropriate domain knowledge.”

At Anderson, Siddiq teaches the core statistics class in the full-time MBA program. “The privilege of working at Anderson is getting to interact with thoughtful students who bring a wealth of collective knowledge to the classroom,” he says. “A diversity of student experience makes class more exciting for everyone involved ― myself included.”
