Aalto University School of Business
I do research on ice mechanics and Arctic technology. I am interested on the behavior of sea ice and on cases when ice collides with a structure, or when a sea ice sheet interacts with another ice sheet. Also, I am interested on the ice loads, which are the loads that the ice exerts on a structure when it collides with it. Insight on ice loads is needed for design of safe, efficient and sustainable marine structures for ice-covered seas. The so-called granular behavior of rubble piles of sea ice blocks is especially fascinating for me. I work with computational tools, such as discrete element method, which we develop further for ice mechanics applications with our group. I also like to go to lab and field to perform experiments. My background is in solid and applied mechanics and, in addition to teaching ice mechanics related topics, I like to teach various topics related to these disciplines.
