Biography
Arthur R. Block is the principal of Arthur Block Attorney at Law in New York City. A former public school teacher, Mr. Block made education law a significant part of his private law practice, while also concentrating in not-for-profit and charitable organizations, employment law, civil and constitutional rights, and commercial litigation. In special education, Mr. Block was actively involved in the first decade of implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (f/k/a Education of All Handicapped Children Act), including a role as one of the plaintiff class attorneys in the seminal law suit, Jose P. v. Ambach. He continues to advocate for parents/guardians of special needs children and developmentally disabled adults. Mr. Block deepened his expertise and involvement in higher education law as the AAUP chapter attorney for the Hofstra University faculty union in the 1980’s, and continues to represent professors, administrators, and students (college, professional, graduate) in a variety of matters. In tandem with his private practice, Mr. Block has engaged in teaching and scholarship, producing significant books and articles, and creating and teaching seminars at Columbia Law School and Cardozo Law School. He earned the highest rating (AV) from Martindale-Hubbell for competence and ethics (www.martindale.com).
