Commercial real estate practitioner Anthony W. ("Tony") Smith is a visiting lecturer in business administration at Darden. He teaches the Second Year elective "Introduction to Real Estate Finance and Development." Smith is regional vice chairman of the CB Richard Ellis Mid-South Region, a commercial real estate services firm with offices in Virginia and North Carolina. He is also senior vice president of Robinson Development Group, Inc., a commercial real estate developer based in Norfolk, Virginia.
In addition, Smith is actively involved in the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). He has taught its course "Managing Real Estate as an Investment" (now the Asset Management Series) for over 10 years. He has also taught "Real Estate Finance" for Old Dominion University and a customized course in property and asset management for Morgan Stanley Real Estate-Japan. He served as the international president of IREM in 2004-05, representing IREM''s 17,000 members throughout the world.
