USC Marshall School of Business
Professor of Accounting, Dr. Andreas Simon focuses on empirical research in accounting, specifically on the role of accounting disclosures within the context of informed decision making. He is a Professor at The University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business. He is also Visiting Professor at The University of Mannheim, Germany. Previously he was a faculty member of Pepperdine University (tenured Associate Professor), St. Mary’s College (Associate Professor) and at Cal Poly Tech University (Assistant Professor). Prior to academia, Dr. Andreas Simon was a securities analyst for Landesbank AG and a consultant for PriceWaterhouseCoopers. During the last several years, Dr. Simon has used his research expertise to advise investment firms on financial reporting considerations for complex accounting topics, and accounting-based trading strategies.
A native from Berlin, Germany, Dr. Simon received his BA in accounting and finance from the University of Applied Sciences - Berlin, Germany. After several years in industry, he moved to Australia to receive his PhD in accounting from the University of Queensland. His dissertation examined how growth in firm's earnings can be predicted. After moving to the USA, Prof. Simon received postdoctoral training in accounting at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business and UCLA's Anderson School of Management. Early in his career Dr. Simon served as a Ranger in the German Army (Deutsche Bundeswehr).
