Biography

Prof. Dr. Andrea Vezzini Bern University of Applied Sciences, Quellgasse 21, CH-2501 Biel, Switzerland; MSc’91,

Prof. Andrea Vezzini received 1996 a PhD in Electrical Engineering from ETH Zürich, Switzerland and successfully completed in 2002 the program for Mastering Technology Enterprises (MTE) at IMD Lausanne.

He is Professor for Industrial Power Electronics at Bern University of Applied Sciences since 1996 and was visiting Professor at GM Advanced Technology Centre in 2003 and Distinguished Visiting Scientist at CSIRO Australia (Commonwealth Science and Industrial Research Organization) in 2007. During the SCCER program length (2014 to 2020) he was Deputy Head of the Swiss Competence Center for Energy Research (SCCER) Mobility

Currently Prof. Dr. Andrea Vezzini holds the position of Head of the BFH Energy Storage Research Center and is the President of the Swiss Association for Innovations in Battery Technologies and Applications (www.iBAT.swiss) . Since Beginning of 2015 he is member of the Federal Energy Research Commission (CORE).

Prof. Vezzini is Chairman of the board and founding member of drivetek ag and member of the board and founding member of Integrated Power Solutions AG.

He received in 2001 the “Swiss technology Award” for the drive train of the first commercial electric glider plane. In 2010 he won the “Bulletin Literaturpreis 2010“ from Electrosuisse for his article series about Lithium-Ion Battery Technology. In 2013 liflex© a jointly developed lithium ion battery system for forklifts together with industrie automation AG, won the „Bestes Neues Produkt 2013“ at logiMAT, the leading fair for material handling in Germany.

Prof. Vezzini holds 23 patents / 8 patent families in the field of electric drives and battery power management systems.

His current research projects cover hybrid permanent magnet synchronous reluctance motors for hybrid and electric cars and advanced battery systems based on lithium-ion technology for industrial and energy storage systems.
