As the Technology Translation Fellow for Physics & Astronomy, Dr Deacon has oversight of the School''s links to business and industry. This includes research collaborations, commercialisation of research, and monitoring of research impacts.

Biography

Dr Alick Deacon is the Technology Translation Fellow in the School of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Manchester. Following an academic research career in Nuclear Physics, and an industrial R&D career in Radiation Physics, he began this role at the Manchester in 2014.

His research background is in gamma- and X-ray physics. Having completed his PhD in Manchester''s Nuclear Physics group in 2006, he went on to work as a post-doctoral research associate, later being awarded a Fellowship by the Science & Technology Facilities Council in 2008. In 2011 he went to work for Rapiscan Systems Cargo & Vehicle Inspection Division as a Radiation Physicist. He returned to Manchester in 2014 in a role created to improve the links between industry and academic research in the School of Physics & Astronomy. Since 2015 this post has been part-sponsored by STFC under their IPS Fellowships scheme.
