Harvard Medical School

Alexander P. Cole, MD is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Associate Surgeon in the Division of Urological Surgery and Junior Core Faculty Member at the Center for Surgery and Public Health at Brigham and Women's Hospital. His research focuses on comparative effectiveness in urologic cancers with an emphasis on costs, value and inequity in health care delivery.

He has published more than 100 original articles, over two dozen abstracts at national and international meetings and his work has been honored in multiple settings. These include two Max Willscher Research Awards from the New England Section of the AUA (3rd place in 2016, 1st place in 2018) and the Joseph E. Murray and Simon J. Simonian Award from the Brigham and Women’s Department of Surgery. His study on cost variations in radical prostatectomy was voted “Best Abstract” at AUA 2016 and was presented at the plenary session of that conference. He was selected by the New England Section to represent the region at the 2020 Early Career Investigators Showcase. His work is funded by the American Cancer Society and Pfizer global medical grants.

He graduated with a BA in Philosophy from Harvard College and received his MD from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his urology residency training Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston followed by clinical fellowships in urologic oncology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and focal therapy at University College London Hospital Trust (UK).
