Aleksandra Klein is Assistant Professor at the Institute for Strategy and Managerial Accounting (IfU) at WU. Previously, she held positions as Lecturer and Researcher at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga), Teaching and Research Associate at IfU as well as Visiting Researcher at IESE Barcelona.
She earned her Doctoral degree from WU. She also holds M.Sc. in Business & Economics degree from the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) in combination with the CEMS Master in International Management program at SSE and WU. Prior to that, Aleksandra gained her bachelor degree at SSE Riga and participated in the Open Society Foundation’s HESP exchange program at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow.
Before joining academia, Aleksandra was Associate at Deutsche Bank Inhouse Consulting working on compliance as well as restructuring and business development topics. During her bachelor and master studies, she did various internships in consulting, finance, analytics, and social business.
Having run undergraduate, graduate as well as executive classes in Austria and abroad, Aleksandra is the recipient of the prestigious Austrian State Award for Excellent Teaching ‘Ars Docendi.’ Her teaching areas include, but are not limited to: strategy, management accounting, project management and creativity and innovation.
Research interest
The leitmotiv of Aleksandra’s research is ‘Creativity meets Performance’ with the special focus on the role of management accounting and control systems in creative and innovative environments. Her doctoral project, where she looked into the effects of, inter alia, accounting data in performance evaluations on team creativity in advertising agencies, has been accepted for publication in The Accounting Review. In addition, Aleksandra is involved in research projects on management accounting in family firms, cost behavior, and contemporary performance evaluation practices. In her research, she collaborates with organizations and scholars from reputable universities all around Europe.
