Aleksander Sadikov

Assist. Professor at University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science

Biography

-

Aleksander Sadikov is the Head of Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at UL-FRI. His main research areas are artificial intelligence (AI), specifically machine learning and data mining, recommender and (clinical) decision support systems, and heuristic search. Applicatively, he employs AI and machine learning techniques in medicine where elicitating domain knowledge can be a key advantage, also in view of explainability and trustworthiness. He led an EIT Health funded project developing predictive models for use in a clinical decision support system (CDSS) based on eye-tracking for early detection of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). In a recently concluded project QUIERO his group researched (semi) automated detection of anomalies in quantitative MR images of the brain and heart. Currently, within the Marie Curie MSCA-ITN project PARENT, his group is researching eye-tracking-based biomarkers, the design of neuropsycho-logical test batteries, and their use in AI-based CDSS for early detection of motor and cognitive impairments in preterm children. Within project MAIBAI the group will focus on trustworthy AI techniques applied to a large mammography screening database. Aleksander is also a co-founder and CTO of NEUS Diagnostics, a high-tech start-up research company developing an eye-tracking-based early detection system for MCI. He is a member of the executive board of the Slovenian AI Society (SLAIS) and a co-chair of the inaugural edition of the European Summer School in AI (ESSAI) and Advanced Course on AI (ACAI) 2023.
