Born in Puerto Rico, Dr. Alberto Vázquez Matos relocated at a young age to New York City, where he began his education by attending Holy Family School and later Monsignor Scanlan High School in the Bronx.

Dr. Vázquez started his career in education as a teacher, then as an academic dean, assistant principal, and finally as a principal of a school. Over the next several years, he served as an adjunct professor at the College of New Rochelle, the Ministry of Education of Lithuania, Fordham University, University of Notre Dame, Ana G. Mendez University System, and currently at Saint Leo University & Universidad InterAmericana de Puerto Rico. His engaging manner has captivated audiences at national and local conferences.

Dr. Vázquez also served as the Associate Superintendent of Schools for Strategic Planning and Governance in the Diocese of Brooklyn, the Superintendent of Catholic Schools and Centers for the Diocese of St. Petersburg, Chief of Staff at Hillsborough County Public Schools, Deputy Superintendent of Hartford Public Schools, Massachusetts state school district receiver. Most recently he was appointed Chief Academic Officer for Middletown Public Schools in Connecticut in July of 2021.

Dr. Vázquez has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career, including the Presidential Medal from Ana G. Méndez University System, Tampa Hispanic Success Story Award in 2015, and Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. Leadership award 2016 Florida Latino Administrator of the Year in 2017. He also published several articles in national magazines like Momentum – one of his most recent articles is titled “Are Our Schools Culturally Proficient?”

Dr. Vázquez has a Doctoral Degree (Ed.D) in Administrator Leadership for Teaching and Learning from Walden University; second Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Second Language Research from Inter-American University of Puerto Rico; a Professional Diploma in Advanced Leadership Studies from Manhattan College; a Masters of Education in School Administration and Supervision from Manhattan College; and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Secondary Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College.

Dr. Vázquez’s zeal, visionary insight, and dedication to education supports his mission of providing excellence in education to all children.
