Full Professor in Applied Economics, Delegate for International Cooperation in Developing Countries, UNESCO Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair on Human Rights, International Cooperation and Sustainable Development and President of the Master's Degree Program in Human Rights, Migration and International Cooperation at the University of Bergamo,

Research interests are in the fields of International Development Cooperation, Sustainable Development, Local Development, Regional Governance and Policy, Migration, Municipal Financing, Policy Analysis and Evaluation, Trade and Foreign Direct Investments.

From 1993 to 2000 Temporary Lecturer at Bocconi University and from 2000 to 2005 Director of the Specialized MBA in International Economics and Management at SDA Bocconi School of Management. From 2004 to 2010 Director General of the Regional Research Institute of Lombardy and then, from 2011 to 2014, Director General of Éupolis Lombardia.

Coordinator of several international projects on behalf of different institutions, including European Commission, Inter-American Development Bank, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, The World Bank Group.

Member of the Board of Directors and Scientific Committees of several institutions and of the International Advisory Board of the Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy and Society.

Author of numerous articles and books on topics related to his research interests.
